POLICY REGARDING THE MAIS ADMISSION CRITERIA

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to define the admission criteria of MA in Islamic Studies at the Islamic Online University.

Policy Statement

Degrees and Diplomas that make a student eligible to join the MA in Islamic Studies program at the Islamic Online University are:

  1. A 4-years bachelor’s degree in Islamic Studies from the IOU or any other accredited university
  2. A 2 or 4-years bachelor’s degree in any discipline other than Islamic Studies from any other accredited university AND a higher diploma in Islamic Studies from the IOU or any other accredited university
  3. A 2-years accredited bachelor’s degree in any discipline AND minimum 2 core Islamic Studies courses* of 100 marks each. These 2 courses are to be from the array of optional courses.
  4. An accredited bachelor’s degree in any discipline other than Islamic Studies AND minimum 36 credit hours of university level core Islamic Studies courses* completed at any other university / institution / Madrasa / Jaamiya

    1. Short weekend Islamic Courses are not counted for this purpose
    2. 7-days / 10-days / longer duration Intensive Courses may be counted – subject to the Registrar’s Office’s discretion

*Core Islamic Studies courses are hereby defined as:

  • Aqeedah (Islamic Theology)
  • Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence)
  • Usool (Principles – of jurisprudence / exegesis / Prophetic (ﷺ) Teachings)
  • Tafseer (Qur’anic Exegesis)
  • Hadeeth (Prophetic (ﷺ) Teachings)
  • Seerah (Biography of the Prophet (ﷺ))
  • Islamiyat (General Islamic Studies covering a range of the above mentioned Islamic Sciences)
  • Arabic Nahw and Sarf (Grammar and Morphology)
Benefits of the Policy
  1. It will help students who have completed their undergraduate degree and have some basic knowledge of Islamic Studies to complete their MAIS and gain higher understanding of Islamic Sciences.
  2. It will increase MAIS Admissions

Fees of the Tests
  1. Arabic Exemption Exam fee is USD $20
  2. Admission Test fee is USD $20

The fees are non-refundable and non-transferable under all circumstances. Only one attempt is allowed for the exam. If the student misses the exam for the applied semester without a valid reason, he or she would have to pay the fees again the following semester.

Structure of the Tests

Both the Admission Test and Arabic Exemption Exam will be fully online.
