Yusuf Gassiep hails from Cape Town, South Africa. He performed Hajj after completing high school and then travelled to Cairo, Egypt where he spent nine years at the Al Azhar Institute and majored in Hadith at the Al Azhar University’s faculty of Usool ad-Deen. He completed the Arabic Diploma and the Khitaba (Sermon) course offered by the Fajr Centre and attended the classes of many eminent scholars in Cairo.
Between 2008 and 2011, he taught English in Al Qassim, Saudi Arabia. During his stay there he was involved with the Buraidah Da’wah Centre and was a Hajj guide for new Muslims.
In 2011 he became the first Imam of the Town Centre Mosque in Cape Town South Africa. Currently, he is an instructor at the Al Furqan Institute and pursuing his MA.
