Why Study at IOU

At the International Open University (IOU), we believe that education must be accessible to everyone, regardless of location or background. Our online programs allow students worldwide to pursue their academic goals and achieve their full potential in this life and the hereafter. We are committed to providing students with affordable, flexible, and high-quality education, and we’re confident that we are the best choice. Here are 12 reasons why.

We Put Islam First

IOU’s Founder and Chancellor Dr. Bilal Philips once said that there is a difference between the student who is a Muslim and Muslims who are students. Our focus is to groom and develop Muslim students – those whose first and foremost priority is the pleasure of Allah.

We Share Authenticity

IOU firmly adheres to the teachings of the Qur’an and the Sunnah and the foundations taught by the righteous predecessors of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Our duty and pleasure are to spread correct Aqeedah (Islamic creed or theology) and teachings of Islam that will bring benefit and blessings to everyone involved for decades to come.

We Have Quality

Our instructors are renowned experts in their fields and participate in research, while staying current with the latest developments in their industries. Hand-picked by Dr. Bilal Philips, our instructors bring a wealth of real-world experience to the classroom, providing students with valuable insights and practical skills that can be applied to their future careers.

We Offer A Unique Blend

One of the many ways that set us apart is our unique approach to education. We have a blend of programs that combine authentic Islamic education and modern subjects, providing students with the ability to learn their religion and prepare them for their chosen career paths.

We Are Accredited

Accreditation is one of the primary concerns of students, and we are pleased to have both institutional and program accreditation from the West African nation of The Gambia. Our institution has been accredited since 2019 and our programs have been accredited since 2021.

We Are Affordable

Education doesn’t have to be expensive – which is why at IOU you only pay a flat fee per semester, depending on which country you reside in. In this way, we ensure that students living in lower-income countries also have the opportunity to gain knowledge.

We Are Accessible

Digital learning brings the convenience of studying anywhere, at any time. You can study online at home on your laptop or offline on the train using your tablet. We offer part-time and full-time study plans, so you can go at your own pace and have an extended period of time to complete your program.

We Support You

IOU has video and text resources to help guide your way through online education, as well as a dedicated student affairs office working to help you complete your programs. We also provide internships for those who qualify for selected programs.

We Are Global

We have the most diverse student body of any university in the world. So you’re sure to interact with like-minded students near you through a student committee, or from anywhere else. With students around the world, we also have IOU-approved examination centers, where students can go and take their exams.

We Support Equality

Education is a right of every individual. IOU supports the notion that every human being should have fair and equal access to knowledge, regardless of gender, social background, or religious affiliation, free of discrimination. All are welcome at IOU.

We Give Back

We offer deserving candidates full scholarships to make higher education accessible and available to those who cannot afford it otherwise. IOU also offers Udhiya (Sacrifice) services for Eid ul Adha (Festival of Sacrifice), so that all who may not know where to go or have the facility available can get the reward.

Our Students Give Back

Community service is an essential part of our programs, and we require our students to apply their knowledge and skills by participating in various activities. These include utilizing the expertise in their chosen field to benefit the community, teaching others what they have learned, and interning with organizations.
