Highlights from IOU VC Dr. Cherno Omar Barry’s Tanzania tour

The IOU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Cherno Omar Barry is currently on an official trip to
Tanzania where he will meet His Eminence the Chief Mufti of Tanzania, Sheikh
Aboubakary Zubeiry, on Monday, 27 September, 2021 in shā Allāh. Among the topics to be discussed at the
high level meeting are facilitating the enrolments of prospective local students
in IOU programs and the establishment of IOU learning centers in various cities in
Tanzania.
Other proposals to be discussed at the meeting are the translation of IOU curricula
from English to Swahili language, delivering a presentation on the 1MAS project
and discussing other possible steps for further strengthening partnerships with
the IOU.
The line-up of issues to be discussed during this trip include the establishment of
a strong, long-lasting partnership between the International Open University
(IOU) and Bakwata Online Academy (Future: Bakwata University) and seeking
accreditation of the IOU courses in Tanzania so that IOU degrees are recognized
for Tanzanian graduates.
The Vice Chancellor Dr. Cherno Omar Barry is expected to meet a host of
distinguished officials during the trip, including the Minister of Higher Education
and the CEO of the Tanzania Commission of Universities.
The officials and community leaders scheduled to meet Dr. Cherno Omar Barry
include Mr. Yacoub Kidula (An-Nahl Trust), Mr. Yassir Masoud (Hay’atul
Ulamaa)- and officials from Tampro.
Dr. Cherno Omar Barry’s itinerary includes an official visit to the Muslim
University of Morogoro
(Facebook) in order to explore the possibility of
collaboration with the IOU on various mutually beneficial projects.
