Dr Bilal Philips ranks Fourth among Top 10 AAOU Meritorious Service Award Finalists

The International Open University (IOU) Chancellor Dr. Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips has been chosen by the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) as one of the Top 10 Finalists of the AAOU Meritorious Service Award 2021. Dr. Bilal Philips ranked the fourth highest out of 17 nominees from across the Asia region.

The AAOU certificate of achievement is given to pioneers in the field of academia in recognition of outstanding services and contributions to distance education. The e-certificate of achievement was awarded to Dr. Bilal Philips during the 34th AAOU Annual Conference held from 1-3 June 2021. 

According to a press release, recipients of the  AAOU certificate of achievement awards were selected by the AAOU Executive Committee from 17 nominees based on recommendations by the AAOU Adjudication Committee. The AAOU conference this year was hosted by the Sri Lanka Open University and was the first hybrid conference held by the organization.

Dr. Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips has been named among “The 500 Most Influential Muslims” for founding the International Open University, which has over 600,000 students registered from 229 different countries around the world. 

Currently, IOU grants access to quality undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate level education programs for students around the world at nominal costs. Its mission is to bring positive change to the Muslim Nation and the world by making authentic Islamized education readily available through the internet.
