Pre Fall 2021 batch

A student will be awarded a Degree/Associate Degree/certificate at the International Open University once the university and academic requirements, and the standards of performance of the program are met.

The International Open University courses consist of recorded lectures by instructors and recorded supplementary sessions by faculty members. A student will earn different credit hours on successful completion of a course. You may find the credit hours details on the respective program’s curriculum page.

MA/ MSc / MEd Degree Course Credit Requirement

To obtain a MA/MEd/MSc degree, a student needs to complete the required courses including the MA/MEd /MSc minor dissertation.

MA / MSc / MEd Degree Community Service Hours Requirement

To obtain a MA, MEd or MSc degree, a student needs to complete a total of 144 hours of community service.

Intensive Arabic Program (IAP) Course Requirement

To obtain an Intensive Arabic Program (IAP) certificate, a student needs to complete a total of 8 Arabic courses

The minimum requirement for a student to successfully complete each course is 60% mark, which must include the final exam score. No course is considered complete without the final exam at an IOU approved center where the identity of the student can be confirmed by verifying his/her photo identity card.

  • Clearance from the IOU Payments Department

The graduation requirement for all categories of the Open Education Program (OEP) include receiving “No Dues” clearance email from the IOU Payments Department.

The following list includes some of the university dues requiring clearance:

  • Semester registration fee
  • Course drop fee
  • Grade transfer fee
  • Internal credit transfer fee
  • Late examination center registration fee
  • Stream transfer fee
  • Provisional transcript (hard copy) fee
  • Provisional transcript (e-copy) fee

Any outstanding balance with IOU, i.e. dues, must be cleared prior to the graduation.

BA in Islamic Studies

  • ARB Grammar I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII and VIII (total 8 courses; 24 credit hours) are compulsory courses with effect from Spring 2016 semester.
  • If your batch of entry is from Spring 2010 to Fall 2015, then you need to complete 8 Arabic courses from ARB 100 to ARB Grammar I - VII or ARB Grammar I - VIII in a linear fashion. [ARB 100 is an optional course; only those students who do not know how to read and write in Arabic script may begin from ARB 100]
  • If your batch of entry is Spring 2016 or later, then ARB Grammar I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII and VIII (total 8 courses; 24 credit hours) are compulsory courses for you and ARB 100 is an optional and noncredit course for you.

To obtain a BA, BEd or BSc degree, a student needs to successfully complete the BA / BEd / BSc thesis and obtain a minimum passing score of 50%.

Thesis is not a graduation requirement for the 2-year Associate Degree program or 1-year Certificate program.

Clearance from the Admissions Office

Successful completion of any degree/diploma program requires the submission of attested (notarized) documents to the IOU Registrar's Office. 

Required documents to be sent via airmail are the following two:

  1. An attested photocopy of high school Associate Degree or higher degree – bearing notary stamp and signature.
  2. A photocopy of passport. In case of passport unavailability, any other official photo ID may be accepted by the Admissions Office (national identity card, driving license, etc.).

Please upload the clear and colored scan only of the attested copies to the  Upload Attested Document portal available under the Documents section on the campus dashboard.

 The following documents may be required to be uploaded in case of credit transfer / course waiver received:

  1. Photocopies of university transcripts bearing proof of successful completion of relevant courses against which transfer credits have been received. Each document must bear notary stamp and a signature.
  2. Supporting documents (photocopy of university transcripts, etc.) bearing proof of successful completion of relevant courses against which courses have been waived off. Each document must bear notary stamp and a signature.

 

Clearance from the IOU Payments Department

The graduation requirement for all categories of the undergraduate (degree/Associate Degree/certificate) programs include receiving “No Dues” clearance email from the IOU Payments Department.

All students are required to pay a flat degree/Associate Degree/certificate processing fees of $100 USD, whether registered full-time or part-time, upon completion of the program prior to the graduation.

The fees cover attestation of the IOU accredited degree, Associate Degree or certificate and the postal charges.

Dual Program students must meet all of the following graduation criteria individually for each of the enrolled programs.
