IOU student nominations open for UNESCO India-Africa Hackathon


The Ministry of Education, The Gambia, through the Embassy of India in Dakar has received an invitation to nominate students for the UNESCO-INDIA-AFRICA HACKATHON scheduled to take place from 22 to 28 November 2022 at Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India.

The Permanent Secretary has requested the nomination of IOU students for the event that will take place in India. Students to be nominated should have good knowledge of recent software development technologies and technologies used for the development of UX and UI, the latest concepts in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science and Blockchain. 

The themes for the Hackathon are Education, Energy, Drinking Water & Sanitation, Agriculture and Health and problem statements for the Hackathon will be based on these themes. There will be 20 to 25 problem statements in total [4 -5 problem statements per theme) and each problem will have 4 - 5 teams competing. Each team will have 6 students and 2 mentors. More importantly, each team will have students from 3 - 4 countries working together to offer innovative solutions to the problem statement' The model is called the collaborative-competition model where students will collaborate and compete against other teams and also learn from each other.

The Ministry of Education, Government of India will take care of international travel expenses from The Gambia to New Delhi, accommodation and food for all delegates after reaching India and students will be provided accommodation in university hostels on a "Twin Sharing Basis". Each university is to provide a minimum Daily Subsistence Allowance [DSA) of three hundred pounds for each of the nominated students from the institutions before departure at the airport.
