Pic: Prof. Makie Taal, Vice Chancellor of the International Open University (IOU), and Dr. Mohamed Salum, IOU Tanzania Representative, had the privilege of meeting Mr. Shabani Mwanga, Owner and Director of City College on 30 July, 2026.

The meeting proceeded in three parts. First, the Vice Chancellor and IOU Tanzania Representative were introduced to the Director of City College by Mr. Ramadhan, a current IOU student in Tanzania. This was followed by an overview of IOU's current standing in Tanzania, presented by Dr. Mohamed Salum. Finally, Prof. Makie Taal introduced IOU in greater depth and presented the idea of collaboration to the Director.

The Director of City College recognized strong potential for collaboration between the two institutions and requested that IOU provide the following:

A proposal outlining the details of the proposed collaboration
A letter of intent

Once these documents are submitted, the Director will review them and present them to City College's board members for consideration. Upon receiving feedback from the board, both institutions will convene their respective teams to finalize the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and proceed to the implementation stage.

This engagement adds to IOU's growing momentum in building meaningful academic partnerships across Tanzania.
