Pic : Prof. Makie Taal, Vice Chancellor of the International Open University (IOU), together with Dr. Mohamed Salum, IOU Tanzania Representative, visited Zanzibar University in Unguja, Zanzibar, for a high-level meeting with the university's leadership on 27 July 2026.

The meeting was hosted by Prof. Mohammed Awadelkarim Elhussein, Vice Chancellor of Zanzibar University, and Dr. Rashid Juma, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration. The primary purpose of the visit was twofold: to provide an opportunity for the IOU Vice Chancellor to formally meet with Zanzibar University's management, and to discuss the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) previously signed between the two institutions.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Prof. Makie informed Zanzibar University's leadership that he would be reviewing the existing MoU with the aim of strengthening its effectiveness and ensuring that its implementation begins as soon as possible.

This engagement reflects IOU's continued commitment to honoring and activating its institutional partnerships, paving the way for stronger collaboration with Zanzibar University in the near future.
