Highlights Day 6: IOU VC Kenya Tour

Pic: Jamia Mosque, Nairobi, hosted the IOU VC Prof. Makie Taal on Friday 24 July 2026. Present were Jamia Mosque management staff, including Jamia Mosque Finance Manager, Abubakar Mohamed, Administrative Manager, Abubakar Omar, among others.
Also present was IOU KTB member, Sh. Abdullatif Abdulkareem and IOU Kenya Representative, Theophil Kipoma.

The first event was a tour of the historic Mosque, discussions on collaboration and partnership of these two great institutions before capping it up with Friday Prayers and lunch.

Jamia Mosque is celebrating 100 years and has put up a gallery to showcase its rich history.

During the Jamia Mosque visit, Prof. Makie Taal visited the Taqwa SACCO. This was the first Shariah compliant financial institution in East and Central Africa. There are several possible areas of collaboration that IOU and this great Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization can explore. It was agreed that a follow up meetings will take place immediately to look for ways of incorporating these ideas of partnership.

The IOU VC visited the Family Resource Center, headed by Sh. Abdullatif Abdulkareem.

Bidding farewell to the IOU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Makie Taal, at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi at the end of his Kenya tour. The IOU Kenya Representative, Theophil Kipoma, saw him off.
