Policy Statement

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an internationally accepted practice in higher education institutions and aims to increase access to higher education for many people for whom this was previously not possible. The Islamic Online University offers a diverse range of educational opportunities that contribute to local, national and global sustainability by creating a variety of access pathways for prospective students.

Under the policy of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), the University provides access to students and graduates of unaccredited institutions to different undergraduate and graduate programs in IOU.

Fees Structure
1. Application Processing Fee:
  • A standard, non-refundable processing fee, equivalent to half the regular semester fee, is charged for the RPL application.
  • The RPL application will be processed only after the application processing fee is received by IOU.
2. Graduates’ RPL Fee:
  • As per IOU Policy # ST/001/2016, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) fee for a graduate of Mishkah University, Knowledge International University or Preston University, Ajman, UAE whose RPL application has been accepted is 4 full semester registration fees + a flat 200 USD BA degree processing fee. The semester registration fees are based on the human development index according to the student’s country of residence. This fee is applicable only after the RPL application has been accepted.
3. Further RPL Processing Fee (for students who partially completed studies at another institute):
  • This fee is applicable only after the RPL application has been accepted.
    For this particular group of students who have partially completed studies at Mishkah University, Knowledge International University or Preston University, Ajman, UAE, the further RPL processing fee apart from the application processing fee will be determined based on the number of semesters they need to complete at the IOU, while ensuring their total payable amount does not exceed the amount students pay as regular semester registration fees for a full BAIS program.
4. Certificate and Associate Degree Students’ RPL Processing Fee:
  • This RPL processing fee is applicable only after the application has been accepted.
  • The RPL processing fee for Certificate and Associate Degree students is equivalent to the fees of one semester for every six courses. For example, if a request of recognition of prior learning is accepted for up to six courses, he/she would pay the fee which is equivalent to one regular semester fee. If the student requests for seven to twelve courses, he/she would have to pay the fees equivalent to two regular semester fees and so on and so forth.
