The module aims to provide students with theoretical and historical understanding of Islamic Psychology and Psychotherapy.
Students will gain exposure to:
- Theoretical bases of Islamic psychology at the intersection of different disciplines such as theology and jurisprudence
- Classical Islamic contributions to the discipline of ‘Ilm al Nafs
- Modern and contemporary attempt to build Islamic Psychology
- The paradigm of Traditional Islamically Integrated Psychotherapy
- An overview of global contributions to Islamic Psychology today

The module aims to provide students with theoretical and practical understanding of Psychological Assessment. Students will gain exposure to:
- Theoretical background and grounding in the field of psychological assessment.
- Ethical and legal issues in psychological assessment.
- Principles and assumptions of psychological assessment.
- The process of test development and assessment.
- Important psychometric properties and scientific principles of testing and assessment.
- Psychological assessment in various contexts (including educational, vocational, clinical and neuropsychological)
- Psychological assessment and testing procedures for Muslims.
- Cultural issues related to psychological testing and assessment.
- New trends and technological advancements in assessment.
This module aims to provide students with a theoretical and conceptual understanding of the fundamentals of research methodology to:
- Understand some basic concepts of research and its methodologies
- Identify appropriate research topics
- Select and define appropriate research problems and parameters
- Prepare a project proposal (to undertake a project)
- Organize and conduct research (advanced project) in a more appropriate manner
- Write research reports, theses and articles
This module provides students with an introduction to writing a research proposal and to the types of skills necessary for the planning, and development of the proposal.
- This course aims to demonstrate an understanding of the different philosophical perspectives which inform research approaches, methodology, design and analysis related to your chosen research problem in the development of a research proposal
- Critically analyse a wide range of literature relating to your chosen research problem in order to justify that the particular research is worth doing
- Discuss the appropriateness of the chosen research methodology, design and methods for the proposed study.
- Critically discuss research ethics principles and their application to the specific research
