Revised Programs

To earn a Bachelor’s degree, students are required to meet the following:

  • Complete the minimum 480 credits of the programme within the minimum study period of 4 years,
  • Satisfy the industrial attachment / practicum / internship / experiential learning as specified in the degree, where applicable,
  • Satisfy the community work and social engagement requirement of the programme, where specified and applicable, and
  • Any other stipulation(s) as published by the Senate.

The final awarding of degrees will comply with the university’s requirements:

The International Open University courses consist of recorded lectures by instructors and recorded supplementary sessions by faculty members. A student will earn different credit hours on successful completion of a course. You may find the credit hours details on the respective program’s curriculum page.

BA / BSc / BEd Degree Course Credit Requirement

To obtain a BA/BEd/BSc/BBA degree, a student needs to complete the required courses including the BA/BEd /BSc/BBA thesis.

BA / BSc / BEd Degree Community Service Hours Requirement

To obtain a BA, BEd or BSc degree, a student needs to complete a total of 216 hours of community service.

Degree program list in this category includes the following:

  • BSc in Islamic Economics, Banking and Finance
  • Bachelor of Business Administration
  • Bachelor of Art in Arabic Language Studies

The minimum requirement for a student to successfully complete each course is a 50% mark, which must include the final exam score. No course is considered complete without the final exam at an IOU approved center where the identity of the student can be confirmed by his/her ID.

BA / BSc / BEd  Degree Course Score Requirement

To obtain a BA, BEd or BSc degree, a student needs to complete all the required courses including the bachelor’s thesis. The passing score for each course is 50% including the final examination score.

To obtain a BA, BEd or BSc degree, a student needs to successfully complete the BA / BEd / BSc thesis and obtain a minimum passing score of 50%.

Clearance from the Admissions Office

The successful completion of all categories of the undergraduate (degree/Associate Degree/certificate) programs include successful receipt of the attested (notarized) documents at the IOU Admissions Office in Gambia.

Required documents to be sent via airmail are the following two:

  1. An attested photocopy of high school Associate Degree or higher degree – bearing notary stamp and signature.
  2. A photocopy of passport. In case of passport unavailability, any other official photo ID may be accepted by the Admissions Office (national identity card, driving license, etc.).

Clearance from the IOU Payments Department

The graduation requirement for all categories of the undergraduate (degree/Associate Degree/certificate) programs include receiving “No Dues” clearance email from the IOU Payments Department.

The following list includes some of the university dues requiring clearance:

  • Semester registration fee
  • Course drop fee
  • Late examination center registration fee
  • Provisional transcript (hard copy) fee
  • Provisional transcript (e-copy) fee

Any  outstanding balance with IOU, i.e. dues, must be cleared prior to the graduation.

All students are required to pay a flat degree processing fees of $100 USD, whether registered full-time or part-time, upon completion of the program prior to the graduation.

The fees cover attestation of the IOU accredited degree and the postal charges.
