The International Open University (IOU) achieved first place in the National Debate and second place in the Quiz competition organized by international NGO CISS on 29th April 2026, held in Kanifing.

A total of ten (10) higher institutions participated in the competition.

The event was structured into two segments: Part I – Debate, and Part II – Quiz.

The International Open University (IOU) was represented by three centers, namely:
Kanifing HQ, Soma 1MAS Center, and IOU Learning Center Basse. Each center was represented by four (4) students, comprising two males and two females.

In total, IOU was represented by twelve (12) students across, all under the coordination of Mr. Samba Saine.

At the end of the competition, IOU Soma 1MAS Center emerged as the winner in the Debate category and was awarded a cash prize of D2,400. IOU Learning Center Basse secured the position of runner-up in the Quiz category and received a cash prize of D1,600.
