Process

The International Open University (IOU) has two semesters per year for its degree-level programs, which start in March and September. Both semesters have various registration and commencement times for the year.

Students who enroll in courses during the early registration period will be granted access to the virtual campus, including the course media and texts, while new students will also receive a 10% discount on their first semester fees.

Registration

The first step in the application process is for a student to complete the electronic application forms for the creation of their degree campus account. These forms collect a student’s personal and contact details, along with the selection of the program they are interested in studying. Students should provide an email account that they check regularly and mobile number they have access to, as these are the primary contact methods that IOU will reach out through.

Becoming an IOU student is as easy as:

  1. Visiting campus.iou.edu.gm
  2. Clicking the ‘Create new account’ button at the bottom of the page
  3. Filling in the registration form
  4. Confirming registration through email or sms
  5. Paying the US$ 10 registration fee either by bank card or wire transfer

Admission

In order to gain admission into IOU, a student must send in necessary documents to the Registrar’s Office for review. Digital copies of the documents are accepted during the online application process to expedite the acceptance procedure. These documents must be notarized and uploaded to the Attested Document portal before a student enters their final semester of study.

The documents required include:

  • Passport-size color photo
  • A photo ID ( passport, driver’s license, national ID card, etc.)
  • Higher Certificate/ Diploma/Bachelor’s Degree: High school certificate or higher (e.g. undergraduate degree).
    This  High School Diploma/ Certificate or a qualification must be  equivalent to HEQF level 4 or ISCED Level 3 
  • Postgraduate Certificate: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.The qualifications submitted must be equivalent to HEQF level 7 or ISCED level 6.
  • Master’s Degree: Bachelor’s degree and if required, also a Postgraduate Certificate. The qualifications submitted must be equivalent to HEQF level 7 or ISCED level 6.
  • PhD Degree: Master’s degree. The qualifications submitted must be equivalent to HEQF level 8 or ISCED level 7.

Language Proficiency Requirements 

Applicants should be competent in English as the language of teaching and learning (LOTL).

If English is an additional or foreign language, the applicant may be required to take the English for Academic Purposes Placement Test (EAPP) with IOU. However, applicants who submit a valid IELTS score of 6.0 overall, with no component below 5.5, or an equivalent qualification, will be exempted from the English for Academic Purposes Placement Test (EAPP); provided the test results are less than two years old at the time of submission. Additional Requirements:

Some programs may require specific subject qualifications or additional tests, the details are available in each program’s page on the main website of IOU.

Applicants may be asked to attend an interview or provide supporting documents as part of the selection process for specific programs, the details are also available in the program specific pages. 

Enrollment

Once admission has been approved, a student can then make payment of the semester fees, followed by selecting the courses to enroll in during that semester.

Attestation Related Details

Unattested certificates are accepted for registration, and the attested documents must be uploaded in the Attested Document portal before entering the FINAL SEMESTER of your studies.

NOTE: Attestation is a mandatory requirement to obtain your degree. We therefore recommend that students complete it well in advance to avoid any complications later.

Attested color photocopy of diploma/degree:

As per the program you have registered, the diploma/ degree must be notarized by an authorized local notary public and it must be clearly shown on the scan sent to IOU. Please share a colored scan with us.

  • Higher Certificate/ Diploma/ Bachelor’s Degree: High school certificate or higher (e.g. undergraduate degree) equivalent to ISCED level 3 / HEQF level 4
  • Postgraduate Certificate: Bachelor’s degree equivalent to ISCED level 6 / HEQF level 7
  • Master’s Degree: Bachelor’s degree equivalent to ISCED level 6 / HEQF level 7 and if required – a Postgraduate Certificate as applicable
  • PhD Degree: Master’s degree equivalent to ISCED level 7 / HEQF level 9

The notarized copy of your document that you will upload must itself bear the notary stamps and signatures. Photocopy of your notarized document is not acceptable.

Students are given time (until the completion of the degree) to submit the attested documents. The attested documents must be submitted in order to receive your degree.

If a student has been granted credit transfer for any course, the relevant transcripts must be photocopied, notarized, and uploaded accordingly.

Coloured Photocopy of Photo ID

Photocopy of photo ID (e.g. passport). If you don’t have a passport, you may submit any other official ID that has your photo on it, (e.g., National Identity card, driving license, etc.)
