Pic: IOU Vice Chancellor Prof Makie Taal also visited the Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services (UIBFS), where he met with the consultant leading efforts to secure recognition of the International Open University (IOU) as an affiliated institution authorized to offer online programmes.

The consultant reported that he had visited Yumbe in July and confirmed the availability of the land donated to IOU by Aringa Kingdom, as well as the government building at the Youth Centre, both of which could support the university's planned operations in Uganda for a very long time.

During the meeting, it was proposed that IOU adopt a blended learning model by offering at least one program through face-to-face instruction, while the remaining programs are delivered online. It was noted that offering one physical program would satisfy the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) requirement that accredited institutions should not operate entirely through online learning.
